IN AN EMERGENCY DIAL 111 FOR Police or VHF Ch 16 Mayday

Coastguard has released our official callout statistics for the last reporting year (1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026). We really do make difference.

Responding to 34 callouts, we saved 2 lives, rescued 16 people and assisted another 26 persons.

Once again we are one of the busier and higher performing units in the country with 5,273 volunteer hours recorded. Many more hours were spent on special projects and a plethora of activities that keep our unit humming.

We gained further recognition with two rescues nominated for the NZ Search and Rescue (NZSAR) awards. While we didn’t win, the organisation officially commended the contribution, commitment, and dedication of our Coastguard Sumner volunteers.

We currently have 47 volunteer crew supported by a highly capable and committed volunteer board.

These achievements are testament to the hard work and dedication of all our volunteers, and we thank them and their families for all that they do.
